Blake Williams is an experimental stereoscopic filmmaker from Houston, Texas, currently based in Toronto, Ontario.
His films present vibrant, often challenging visual stimuli within complex organizational patterns and structures that flirt with narrative conventions. Mining the depths of formats, technologies, and texts that are situated on the margins of media history, his work explores the underside of images, as well as the devices we use to produce and consume them.
Williams’s 3D films have screened at venues such as the Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Berlinale, Locarno Festival, Jeonju International Film Festival, FIDMarseille, Cinéma du Réel, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has presented solo programs at Acropolis Cinema in Los Angeles; LOST FUTURES in London, England; the Blaffer Gallery at University of Houston; and the Brisbane Film Society in Queensland, Australia. His work has been featured in publications such as Cinema Scope Magazine, MUBI Notebook, and The Brooklyn Rail.
In 2021, he co-founded the production company BlueMagenta Films.
